Chipchase Castle
Situated north of Hadrians Wall near Wark, Chipchase Castle is a 17th century Jacobean mansion incorporating a 14th century pele tower. The Manor of Chipchase was aquired by the Heron family (a relation hopefully) with the marriage of Walter Heron to the heiress of Chipchase in the 14th century. The grounds are open to the public with the castle open in June only.
